Gustavo A. Oliveira focuses his practice on international taxation and estate planning, particularly for high-net-worth families and individuals. He has substantial experience in a wide range of cross-border tax and estate planning issues including inbound and outbound tax strategies, and in trust and estate planning for U.S.-based and foreign clients, as well as being skilled in general corporate, business, and local and state taxation. He is fluent in English and Portuguese and advanced in Spanish.
Gustavo Oliveira was born in Porto Alegre, Brazil in 1979 where his native language was, naturally, Portuguese. In 1989 his family relocated to Miami, where he learned English and attended middle and high school. In 2003 he graduated, cum laude, from the University of Miami, with a bachelor’s degree in music (focusing on the classical guitar), and subsequently went to work for a Miami-based technology firm that specialized in internet and computer systems security and compliance. After four years in the technology field, Mr. Oliveira was admitted to law school at the University of Miami.
Mr. Oliveira obtained his J.D. degree in 2009 and his LL.M. in Taxation (Magna Cum Laude) from the University of Miami, School Of Law in 2010, where he was a member of The University of Miami Law Review, a recipient of the Dean’s Merit Scholarship, and a member of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute Scholarship. While in law school, Mr. Oliveira participated in the Children and Youth Law Clinic representing children in the foster care system and he interned at a local Miami law firm where he trained in complex commercial litigation, professional disciplinary litigation, and insurance defense. In his final year in law school, in line with the core studies of his masters’ program, Gustavo interned for the Internal Revenue Service, developing experience in legal research in a wide-range of complex tax disputes.
Mr. Oliveira joined AMK in December 2011, where his practice focuses on the representation of U.S.-based and international clients in their cross-border business, investment, acquisition and other international financial transactions; international tax, trust, and corporate matters; international estate planning for high-net-worth families and individuals; and all aspects of state and local taxation.
Mr. Oliveira is a member of the Tax Section of the Florida Bar, the Greater Miami Tax Institute, and the London-based Society for Trusts and Estates Practitioners (STEP).
